This year’s camping trip refined my idea of ‘eventful’. The second annual camping trip improved dramatically and toppled over last year’s first annual camping trip. The campsites were larger; the beaches were sandy; the weather was fantastic; and days were scheduled and eventful. The combined efforts of parents and the KKCYAO allowed the camping trip to be memorable, fun, and a learning experience among youth.
For the first time in the Cambodian Canadian community, Chantria Tram, a leading young woman is able to introduce the art of Cambodian Culture through performing on stage.
Chantria Tram is one of the co-founders (along with Milena Buziak) of the Apsara Theatre Company. They were able to create a culturally relevant play that truly indulges the audience into the play itself.
"Apsara Theatre Company is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create a multicultural and intercultural theatre that is inclusive and meaningful in order to build bridges of dialogue amongst Canada’s diverse population."
The crisis of poverty in the Khmer-Krom community in the Mekong Delta of South Vietnam has sparked the world community to call upon the Government of Vietnam to step in.
On June 12, 2009 a seminar was held by the Office of the Central Party Committee to propose measures for the anti-poverty that focuses the Khmer-Krom people in the Mekong Delta.
On May 18, 2009 as the first day begins of the two weeks conference sessions for the Khmer Krom youths all over the globe to gather in New York City once again this year, the Permanent Forum provides the opportunity for the Indigenous peoples from many different nationalities to seek justice for millions of voiceless people in their homeland.
This year’s conference would certainly be a landmark for the years to come, as there are many strong youth members from all around the globe such as France, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and many different parts of the states to help in the cause.
As the planning and preparation gets underway for the third annual youth conference, Khmer Krom Federation Youth Committee (KKFYC) team would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported this outstanding event over the past years.
On May 23, 2009 KKFYC will be hosting the Youth world conference at the National Constitution Centre in Philadelphia.
To date, this annual one day event has inspired many people by delivering strong and powerful messages to the community in regards to human rights issues in Vietnam.
Without the generous support of the Khmer Krom community in Philadelphia and New Jersey, KKFYC team would not be able to give back and touch the lives of so many people within the community, and so, for their continued participation, we thank each and every one of them.
