Toronto, ON (Friday, March 5, 2010) – The 2010 Western Canada Regional Champions of the “Students In Free Enterprise” (SIFE) program and the Student Entrepreneur Program were announced on Friday, March 5th in Calgary at the ACE Western Canada Regional Exposition.

Calgary, AB (Wednesday, February 10, 2010) - Teang Tang, owner of Mingle Event Management and full time student at Athabasca University, has been named the 2010 Student Entrepreneur Alberta Champion by national charitable organization, Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE) and proud program supporter, CIBC.

Since 2008, Teang has owned and operated Mingle Event Management, a company specializing in sustainable event management solutions. Mingle works directly with clients to identify "Green" goals at the beginning of the process. After each event, clients receive a sustainability audit summarizing the environmental impact of their event and evaluating how much energy and resources they've saved.

Since the recession, the Canadian economy has been steadily recovering. The state of the economy not only affects consumers, but it also affects many businesses causing them to shut their doors.

Although, this year’s economy is expected to grow, it is likely that it would not rebound back to its original state anytime soon.

According to news released by the Canadian Press, Statistic Canada had reported that there was a five percent growth in the fourth quarter.  This major hiked was due to the increased in the consumer spending and an increased in the number of exports.

For the time being, the interest rate is said to remain low until April.  The interest rate is likely start to increase in June.

 

 
EARTH QUAKES STRIKES CHILE PDF Print E-mail

On Feb 27, 2010 millions of people in Chile were affected by the earthquake. There were more than 700 people reportedly dead, and many more are injured and still missing.

 

According to s Global news report, although many infrastructures in Chile were built to withstand some natural disasters, but it still could not stand the massive quake that took place.

 

The earthquake strikes at around 3:00 am Friday night.

 

While millions of earthquake victims are waiting for aid from the international community, the United Nations, is ready to help.

 

On behalf of Khmer Krom community in Canada, we would like to extend our deep sympathy and prayers for those who lost their love ones in Chile.

TORONTO - Canadians have until March 1 to make their 2009 contributions to their registered retirement savings plans and it looks like fewer will be taking advantage of the plan this year.

A survey done by Royal Bank late in 2009 indicated that just 35 per cent of Canadians have contributed to or plan to contribute to an RRSP for the 209 tax year - the lowest percentage of contributors since 1996.

Canada was still recovering from a recession at that time, just like now, and economists note that that could be one reason for the difference in intentions this year, since the recession has pushed up the jobless rate and squeezed living standards.
